Volunteer Opportunities

There are two shifts for volunteers to elect to help with!

Morning-Prep, Cleaning, Etc.

(11:00am to 2:00pm)

Work with our kitchen manager and other volunteers to sort through and properly store the donations for the day, complete basic food prep such as making salads, washing and chopping vegetables, and assist with preparing lunch for the volunteer team.
Volunteers also clean the facility by dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing common areas. Other tasks come up throughout the day that we could use support with!

Afternoon-Serving, Cleaning, Etc.

(3:00pm to 5:30pm)

3-4 volunteers will work on the serving line, providing guests with trays & flatware, fruit, dessert, salad, drinks, and the main course between 4pm and 5pm.
Other volunteers may be assigned to the dish room, which has a system in place for dishwashing that is in compliance with all relevant food safety regulations.
Finally, 1-2 volunteers will be assigned to the giveaway room, from which our guests can take snacks, drinks, bread, treats, and anything else that we had extra of. These volunteers are charged with ensuring guests are taking what’s fair, leaving enough for all who will be coming through.

Staff and/or supervisors may ask you to shift into a vacant role at any point during your shift.

Please see our Volunteering FAQ before signing up.

Please note: we do not perform volunteer intake or scheduling over the phone or via email.

Enfield Loaves & Fishes staff vet all applicants for community service and reserve the right to approve or deny prospective community service participation at their discretion. If accepted, continued participation is contingent on the applicant following the Enfield Loaves & Fishes Volunteer Guidelines.

If there are no roles or shifts available during the sign up process, your application requires manual approval. Please continue clicking "Next," and then "Go Home" once your information is complete. A member of staff will reach out to you with further instructions.

Please note - we cannot accommodate children under nine years old. Children nine to fourteen may volunteer with parental supervision. Volunteers younger than fifteen that need hours for National Honor Society or other school-related activities should email info@enfieldloavesandfishes.org.

As a Volunteer, you will perform a variety of tasks needed to fulfill the agency’s ever-changing needs, with respect to your capabilities. Activities may include sorting donations, moving and organizing items, cleaning, assisting with meal preparation, and/or serving meals, and any other duties as assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet the physical requirements and perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Physical requirements refer to the level and duration of physical exertion generally required to perform critical tasks in support of critical job functions, for example - sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. Under current law, an agency is not required to make an accommodation which would impose an "undue hardship" on the operation of the agency’s business. "Undue hardship" is defined as an "action requiring significant difficulty or expense" when considered in light of the size, resources, nature, and structure of the nonprofit organization. Undue hardship is a factual determination analyzed on a case-by-case basis.
